Nov 27, 2023: What's Thanksgiving
Mission time is different for real
It does not feel like a week has already gone by but it has, so that is fun. This week has been so good tho and I have learned a lot from it, which is always the best. I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many great people and missionaries in my district and zone.
One thing that I have learned this week: some things that we have in Tres Picos are normal throughout the mission, like bucket showers. Some others are not, like pilas de agua, which is just a big cement water tank that's only purpose is to house our fish. Oh, and sometimes for washing dishes and clothes and stuff but the most important part is the fish. I also made peace with the cat and I think we are friends now so that's good.
Thanksgiving was a really weird day because they have no idea what that is here. So I explained to many different people that it's a day of family, food, and football americano. It was also the day that my trainer hit 10 months in the mish, so we decided to celebrate and have a feast of tacos and it was absolutely freaking amazing. Still missed the turkey and mashed potatoes tho.
Intercambios (exchanges), I had the chance to learn from our district leader Elder Price for the day on Friday and it was a really cool experience. It was nice to be able to ask some of the more confusing questions that I had in English. It was also super cool to see another style of teaching and get a lot of help in my Spanish pronunciation.
Saturday, we were extraordinarily blessed to have a baptism. It was my first on the mission and a very special experience for me. It was also in a river, which I thought was really cool and it made me think a lot about the example of Jesus and his own baptism, found in Matthew 3.
Sunday was the primary program for our branch so 24 of us loaded up into 12 passenger van to go to Tonala for church. To say it was crowded is a little of an understatement. It was super cool tho to see how committed so many people were to going anyway they could. On the way back we piled back into the van for the 45 min drive back and I got to sit on the floor next to the door with my feet in the little step down area and squished in between a seat and the door. The little kid that was in his mother's lap in the seat next to me spent most of the ride playing with my hair so that was a fun ride haha
Honestly i thought that I would never even see a basketball for two years, but i've played more basketball here than soccer so that is lit.
My spiritual thought this week is John 21 15
15 ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
This has hit me hard this week as I have struggled a little with getting distracted. I encourage all to replace Peter's name with your name and pray to know what you can do better at sacrificing to the Lord.
